Blackett Street/Good Street roundabout

Council is planning to install a new roundabout at the intersection of Blackett Street and Good Street to improve safety and to make it easier for pedestrians to cross Blackett Street.

Location of work at Blackett Street and Good StreetStormwater pipes through the intersection will be upgraded at the same time.

We are also planning to improve Good Street on the west side between Blackett Street and Tyler Street.

These works will improve the street amenity and also the pedestrian environment and access to the town centre for residents north of Blackett Street. The work will also consist of:

  • Renewal of the kerb and channel and footpaths on the western side of Good Street, between Blackett Street and Tyler Street
  • Reduction of the road carriageway width to approximately 10m. This is made up of two 3 metre driving lanes and two 2 metre parking lanes
  • Removal of the existing wooden planters and replacing with kerb build-outs to match the what is in place on the eastern side of Good Street
  • Planting of flowering cherry trees within the new kerb build-outs.

The roundabout construction will start on Monday 2 May 2016 and will be completed in July 2016.

Traffic impacts

  • Two-way traffic will be maintained on Blackett Street
  • Good Street, between Blackett Street and Blake Street, will be one-way southbound
  • The north side of Good Street will be closed from the intersection of Blackett Street to No. 16 Good Street. All traffic, Good Street residents and visitors to the Museum, Bridge Club and Bowling Club will be detoured. Resident access within the road closure will be maintained. Please follow traffic signage
  • Access to New World will be maintained during the work. Due to the one way system between Blackett Street and Blake Street, vehicles exiting the car park at Good Street will need to travel via Blake Street or use the Ashley Street entrance
  • On-street parking will be affected in the work area.
