What Planning Rules Apply to my Site?

print

Waimakariri District Council has a District Plan which outlines specific building requirements, including:

  • Which sites you can build on
  • Setbacks from boundaries
  • Recession planes
  • Number of units on sites.

Project Information Memorandum (PIM)

When you apply for a building consent you have the option to also include an application for a Project Information Memorandum (PIM). This will confirm if your particular project complies with the District Plan. It will also show other relevant information that the Council knows about your site, for example wind, earthquake and snow zones.

The Council recommends that you apply for a PIM prior to applying for a building consent so that you are aware of this information when you prepare your final design as this can also save time.

If you choose not to apply for a PIM Council staff will advise you if any non-compliance with the District Plan is found.
