Woodend Development Strategy
‘Woodend Futures’ is an urban development project
which recognises the need for a plan for the future of Woodend.
It brings together growth issues including the State Highway
alignment, linkages with Pegasus Town, development of Gladstone
Park, Woodend East Roading alignments, and Woodend growth as
allowed under the Greater Christchurch Urban Development Strategy.
It is about balancing and integrating all of these factors
to ensure a desirable town to live in that provides amenities
of an appropriate standard and accessibility for the community.
The Waimakariri District Council first began talking to the
community about this project a little over a year ago.
Following the community’s input the Council commissioned
a report by an independent consultant (UrbanismPlus) into the
options for urban form and growth directions for Woodend to
meet the desired outcomes.
The three growth options have been summarised in a pamphlet
being sent to every household in Woodend and within 500 metres
of the town boundary.
It contains the key maps from the consultants report illustrating
potential growth directions, the locations of proposed State
Highway alignments, and the roading options for east Woodend.
A second consultants report detailing roading options for
East Woodend has also been prepared. A separate map illustrating
these roading options is attached as an overlay to the Woodend
Futures flyer.
A feedback form with a series of questions is included.
Members of the community are invited to obtain a copy of the
consultants report from any of our Service Centres should they
feel they need further information to help them form an opinion
on a preferred direction for growth.
Council staff are also offering to attend meetings of local
groups and will be hosting a public meeting where members of
the community can ask any questions or seek clarification of
the information we have provided.
Submissions will remain open until 14 December.
