The multi million dollar upgrade of Tram Road is underway.
The project is designed to improve the safety and efficiency
of this arterial which services many existing and growing communities
in the district.
City Care is undertaking the work which will involve road
widening, intersection improvement, piping or protection of
drains, relocation of some power poles and trimming back vegetation
between Jacksons and South Eyre Roads.
The improvements will ensure the road is of a consistent standard
along its length that will improve both the safety and efficiency
of a major arterial which is coming under increasing pressure
as the district continues to develop.
The Council has worked closely with landowners and stakeholders
to finalise the project design since the improvements were
first signalled in the Tram Road Improvement Strategy in 2004.
Construction will take around two years and all up, cost $6.5
million dollars.
Several other sections, including the intersections of the
Jacksons, Island, Whites and Bradleys Roads, have already undergone
improvements as part of the earlier works under the Strategy.
The roadworks will be sign-posted, and road users will need
to be aware of the possible dangers when travelling on this
section of Tram Road.
Drive slower, be prepared to stop, watch for the signs warning
of the hazards ahead, and obey directions from the road crew.
Please be aware, some delays and disruption are likely at
times, choose an alternative route if possible.

Tram Road update April 2008
Most of the construction works has been completed on the North-side
shoulder of the Central and Western sections, including almost
all tree clearing and stump removal.
Work has commenced on the South-side shoulder in these two
sections, including the major drainage work (pipe and box culvert
work around the Woods Road intersection, and the gabions along
the open drain on the Western section).
The Eastern section remains untouched at present, and road
construction there is programmed for late 2008, early 2009,
although City Care are hoping to commence with the shoulder
works during May/June this year, depending on weather conditions
and progress in other areas.
We thank residents, neighbours, and motorists for their patience
and continued co-operation.
