The Waimakariri District Council has begun planning for Kaiapoi through community consultation to identify options for growth and development.

Preferred options will form part of the Kaiapoi Development Strategy.

The Strategy is an urban development project looking at the future growth and development of Kaiapoi.

It recognises the need to plan for a range of activities including new housing and residential development, retail and business opportunities and transport and roading.

These activities are outlined in a public feedback flyer ‘Kaiapoi Development Strategy: Development Issues for the River Town’, which was distributed early in 2008.
