Artistic Needles
Evening classes were held at Oxford Area School originally for two different groups of women, both taught by Glenda Newton, one to make bears and the other to do patchwork. The classes concluded with the women in each group still enthusiastic, wanting to continue to meet, to learn and develop their skills while continuing to enjoy each others company. In due course the two groups joined together and in 2002 Artistic Needles evolved, drawing upon the collective skills-base of these talented women and their creations.
Artistic Needles
became a group of like-minded people using needles and
fibres to preserve old knowledge and expertise and
recognise that handiworks are not just items of usage
but frequently are “useful works of art!” Our purpose is
to encourage and inspire others to gain knowledge of
these handicrafts, to keep alive and continue to grow.
We also have specialist workshops arranged throughout the year with dedicated and skilled tutors to compliment and extend their artistic abilities. Examples of recent workshops are seen in this exhibition with dolls, landscape quilts and handmade silk paper items.
In the Chamber Gallery 23 Aug - 24 Sept 2009.
