In 2016 the Kaiapoi-Tuahiwi Community Board approved the upgrade of the playground area within Baker Park, Kaiapoi. This playground will include elements such as a half basketball court, BMX pump track, play equipment, seating, exercise equipment and a public toilet. Once complete, this playground will provide a great space for children of all ages within the surrounding areas to come and play.
Work will begin on this construction on Monday 15 May and will take 6 – 8 weeks to construct. During this time, the playground will be inaccessible to the public. Access from Otaki Street will be maintained where possible but during some periods this will need to be blocked and access to the park will be from the Aldersgate Street entrance only. Temporary fencing will be used to prevent access to the construction area and it is important that only authorised people go within this area. During construction, contractors and machinery will be accessing the site so we ask that residents using the other areas within this reserve keep a safe distance from their vehicles. It is expected that there will be some construction noise during this time especially when power tools or heavy machinery are being used. The contractor will do their best to keep this noise to a minimum and work will be during daylight hours only.
