Option B: Two Service Choices

LetsTalkRubbish_TwoBins

Environmental Benefit:

Reduces waste in our District by 2%

While this option doesn’t decrease the amount of compostable waste going to landfill in our District, the addition of the rubbish bin provides convenience and reduces injury to collectors by about 90%. People still have alternatives for composting their food and garden waste. This option also allows you the choice of continuing to use WDC rubbish bags.

Service:

  • Recycling collected fortnightly ($86 annual rate, no change to this service)
  • Rubbish collected weekly
  • No Council organic/garden waste collection

Choices:

Either

  • WDC bags at $3 each.

Or

  • A rubbish bin. You can also choose the size that suits your household: 140L (annual rate $195, this is the standard service), 80L (annual rate $135) or none (annual rate $0). A 240L bin will not be offered for rubbish.

Did you know?

Rubbish bags have a 60L capacity. For example:

  • If you put out 1 bag every week, your annual rubbish costs are $156 (that’s $242 including the kerbside recycling rate).
  • If you choose a rubbish bin, this improved level of service will come at an additional rating cost: a standard 140L rubbish bin would cost an extra $195 per year (that’s $281 including the kerbside recycling rate).

This option reduces the amount of waste going to landfill by about 2%, reduces the ‘nuisance’ from cats & dogs ripping the bags and reduces the injury risk to the collector. It will have some impact on private waste collectors’ businesses. Council will not provide a 240L rubbish bin because we want to encourage people to reduce waste.
