Do I need a permit to burn rubbish?
A permit is not required unless there is a restricted fire season in force. If there is a prohibited fire season in place NO fires are permitted.
Property owners within the Ashley Rural Fire District and Department of Conservation land are subject to a restricted fire season all year round. Permits may be obtained from the relevant Fire Authority.
Outdoor burning in residential-zoned areas or close to sensitive areas is banned all year round unless a resource consent to burn is obtained from Environment Canterbury.
If your property is located in Clean Air Zone 2 surrounding Rangiora and Kaiapoi you may not light a fire outdoors without a resource consent from Environment Canterbury between 1 May and 30 September.
