Each year the Waimakariri District
Council sets aside funds to assist individuals who require emergency
financial assistance. Applications are approved or declined by the Mayor
and his adviser, and applications should be aware that the the fund has
limited income.
Priority for Funding
- To help families in need
- School camps, uniforms, special education
- Bond and letting fees for rental properties
- Heating (firewood and power accounts)
- Petrol
- One-off medical costs (e.g. getting a child to a doctor)
- Establishment fee for a telephone connection
- Other crisis situations as deemed appropriate by the Mayor.
Guidelines
- The applicant must be a resident in the Waimakariri District
- The event, or requirement for funds is for a situation of financial hardship
- The
application has first exhausted general sources of finance, such as
Department of Work and Income or local food banks, and the immediate
family is unable to assist
- Grants will only be one-off
- Each grant will be dealt with on an individual basis to allow for flexibility
- Cheques will not be made out to individuals.
