The Background of WHAG

The Waimakariri Health Advisory Group (WHAG) was established in 2004 to address the health needs of the people in the Waimakariri area.

The purpose of WHAG is to:

  • Provide advice to the Waimakariri District Council on health issues
  • Be a forum for health issues to be discussed
  • Provide community feedback for the Waimakariri District Health Promotion Plan
  • Advocate on behalf of the community to the primary health organisations (PHOs) on health issues.

Terms of Reference for WHAG

WHAG is represented by members of local community groups, health providers, health consumers and potential partners. The group was established to act as a forum in order to:

  • identify and advocate for health needs
  • provide community feedback to the Council on the outcomes of health initiatives with special emphasis on community outcomes as recorded in the WDC Ten Year Plan.
  • provide opportunities for networking and collaboration for health-related agencies working within the District
  • ensure shared solutions and approaches are developed where possible
  • assist with identification of key issues for input into PHO annual plan and the Waimakariri District Health Promotion Plan that sits with Rural Canterbury PHO.

WHAG meets on a monthly basis on the first Tuesday of the month, from 5.30 - 7.00 pm in the Committee Rooms, Waimakariri District Council, 215 High Street, Rangiora.
