The Waimakariri District Council is dedicated to providing a safe and
happy community. The District was accredited as an International ‘Safe Community’ by the World Health
Organisation Collaborating Centre on Community Safety in 1999, and re-accredited in 2006.
Community Shade Loan Programme
Rangiora Cancer Support Group
and the Cancer Society of NZ Inc., working in partnership with the
Council, offer a free shade loan service and sunscreen to groups, clubs,

Safety in the Community
The Council is involved in a number of community safety initiatives, including Injury Prevention Waimakariri, Safer Community Council and Restorative Justice.
